Dublin Bay Cycling

5th Class have been taking part in the Cycle Safe Training Course with Colm and Tony. This course is aligned to Cycle Right, the national Standard for Cycle Safety Training in Ireland. The topics we have covered so far are safe equipment, rules of the road, starting and stopping, road positioning, shoulder checking and turning left and right.

We all now know how to put on our helmets safely and how to check that our bike is safe to ride. We have been enjoying turning our yard into a pretend road using chalk and cones as guides. We can use our hands to signal safely if we want to make a left or right turn. There has been great success so far and we’re really looking forward to getting out onto the road!

Here are some photos of us cycling:

A Trip to the Past

First, we went on a long walk to St Annes. On the way, we bumped into Ms Dunne’s friend’s Mam with a dainty dog. When we arrived, we were greeted by Kerry who was our tour guide. She told us about the history of the Guinness House and explained that there is a tunnel under the mile in St Annes. When they knocked down the house, they whacked all the rubble down into the basement.

Then we met the 4th Molly in our lives! She was an actual archaeologist! She had three jumpers on because she has to stand around in the cold weather all day – poor Molly! ☹ She showed us some fossils and where the foundations of the house used to lie. Go and have a look yourselves, we don’t want to spoil it for you!

Next, we went to an area in the park where we played ‘build-up’ tag. Some of us went up a big tree and it was very hard to climb to the top. We had a big game of football and played World Cup. Salah, Mbáppe and Katie McCabe wouldn’t have stood a chance against us!!

We hope you enjoyed reading about our fascinating trip to St Annes. We had a great day.
